Volunteer Registry FAQs
- What is the GW VRU Volunteer Registry?
-
The Volunteer Registry is a list of individuals who are interested in participating in GW VRU research studies. Volunteers are asked to provide basic information, a brief medical history, and can choose the types of studies to be contacted for. We use this list to identify and contact potential volunteers for new studies.
- Who can sign up?
-
- Adults who are at least 18 years old and live in the Washington D.C. metropolitan area.
- Adolescents ages 12- 17 years old who live in the Washington D.C. metropolitan area with a parent or guardian's consent.
- Will I need to schedule an in-clinic visit?
-
No. You do not need to schedule an in-clinic visit to sign up for the registry. If an in-clinic visit is required for a specific study, we will contact you.
- If I am a former research participant, should I still sign up for the registry?
-
Yes. Even if you are a former research participant at the GW VRU, it is good to sign up for the registry if you would like to participate in future studies. However, the Volunteer Registry is just one tool among many that we use to contact participants who have shown interest in future studies.
- What if I no longer want to be contacted for research?
-
If you no longer want to be contacted, you can withdraw your consent to be on the registry. You can do this by calling 202-994-1599 or emailing gwvru@gwu.edu and we will remove your name and contact information from the registry.
- Will I receive a payment after joining the registry?
-
There is no payment for joining the registry. If you are invited to attend an in-person screening visit, you will be compensated for completing the visit. If you are contacted to participate in a study, you will be compensated for your participation in that study.
- How can I trust that my information is protected?
-
This registry is hosted on a secure platform that is compliant with federal laws that protect your identity and health information. Your information will not be shared with anyone outside of the GW study team. If you decide to participate in additional studies, we will not share your information until you provide your permission and written content.
